About us

Founded in 1923 by a group of Christian Los Angeles businessmen, Idyllwild Pines Camp and Conference Center has been a place for generations of Christian ministry, retreats, and events for nearly 100 years. While we may have began as a humble campsite of platform tents and stone fireplaces (some of which are still around today!), we are now a 52-acre facility with year-round availability! With room for up to 500 campers (350 from October to April), our mission is provide space for your group to “trust, treasure, and take-after Jesus.” Weather you are a small team looking for all inclusive cabins, or a large guest group looking for ample activities such as archery or paintball we are here to help you create your own adventure!

Our mission is to create quality-affordable camp experiences that provide space for God to move our campers, staff, and partners to live lives that inspire the next generation of believers to trust, treasure, and take-after Jesus.

Kevin Relyea

Kevin started his “career” as a sixteen-year-old, atheist “burger flipper” at a “Jack in the Box” in California. In an amazing turn of events, God changed his selfish and skeptical heart and has led him on a unique journey that has allowed him to lead as a "Forbes 500" CEO, a missionary Church Planter, an Executive Pastor, a Corporate Leadership Coach/Consultant, a University Professor and Christian Camp Leader.

Kevin is trained, uniquely experienced, called and passionate to help Christian leaders develop the skills and character necessary to change the world for good.

He thanks God every day for his wife and best friend, Mary, who is his partner in everything valuable.

Kelly Schlenz

Kelly Schlenz is a 3rd generation camp kid. He graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a Bachelors degree in Communication Studies, 2003 and his M.A. in Leadership, with an emphasis in Leadership Development, 2011.

He spent the early portion of his career as a Residence Director and Program Coordinator at Azusa Pacific where along with various other duties he oversaw Walkabout, an 11 day leadership training experience for RA's held in the Yosemite and Ansel Adams Wilderness.

After over 10 years in college ministry, God brought Kelly and his family back to his roots at Idyllwild Pines Camp. He is excited to see his passions for youth, developing leaders in their walk with Jesus, and experiential outdoor education come together.

Rochelle Lloyd

Rochelle Lloyd joined the camp staff in early 2012 bringing 20 years of experience in not for profit bookkeeping. She enjoys the high-energy environment of the camp and loves all things financial. When not at work, she enjoys caring for her home and family, reading, occasional RV trips with her husband, and teaching a Sunday school class of 4thand 5th graders.

Marjie Ibanez

Marjie Ibanez, Guest Services Manager, joined the ministry in July 2012. Her management and guest services experience makes her an essential member of the team adding superior customer service to enhance our group’s experiences.

As a child, Marjie attended Idyllwild Pines as a camper. It was at camp she was able to develop a relationship with Christ and experience how camp can make an impact in the lives of others. Now she has the opportunity to give back and provide that opportunity for over 8,000 campers who attend camp each year!

John Aufhammer

John's passion for Christian camps began years ago when his young family experienced many family retreats at a Christian camp. Even during his long career in business, his love for camp ministries grew deeper. Since retiring from that business career, he’s had the joy of being a part of Idyllwild Pines. His love for people and love for Christian camping bring him joy as he builds relationships with new and current groups at Idyllwild Pines.

John and his wife Robin enjoy long road trips, love spending time with their 3 grown children and their families, and are blessed to be a part of Idyllwild Pines Camp.

Nancy McAuliffe

I have lived up on the mountain since 1989 and I love the quietness from the city and the beautiful sounds of nature. My son was the first to work at Idyllwild Pines Camp as a summer staff member when he was in High School. That was my introduction to the camp.

I applied to work in the kitchen and was hired to help cook. The first thing that I was asked to do was make apple crisp which seemed simple enough but it was not like you would make for your family in a cake pan. I had to make 3 full sheet pans that would feed 80 people each. I though WOW these are big. But I got it done and continued to learn how to cook for large numbers of people. It is an amazing experience here and it forever changes you in ways sometimes you can't explain. I enjoy working with all our camp staff family and seeing all the people come to the camp and have life changing experiences.

Josh Soto

Josh joined the Idyllwild Pines team in the Summer of 2017. He now works
in the front office assisting with the accommodations and needs of the campers and groups who attend. Aside from working up in the office, Josh enjoys being both in front of and behind the camera for the camp's fun and informational videos. In the past he took up the job title as "Staff Support" for our college staff that joins us each summer. Josh previously worked with Hemet Unified School District in the special education department for 4 years. It's there that he discovered his passion for helping students overcome whatever obstacles and challenges that stood in their way. He has made it his goal to use his passion for God and apply it with the skills he has required over the years to help the camp make a difference in students' lives.

Joanne Bischof

Joanne worked her first summer at Idyllwild Pines in the kitchen while still in high school. As an adult, she shifted gears into being a full-time writer and now is back on staff where she gets to use some of those writing skills on the Idyllwild Pines marketing team.
